Hey Shy Deer

Hey shy deer, you're off in the distance — why don't you come near?

So many things can harm me and I am very gentle. I am not a fighter, though a buck can give some trouble.
Yes, I am aware, but there are no hunters near.

How do I know you are not hunting? You might have a knife. I'm sorry — I will go away for now. Tomorrow we will say hello again.

---

Hey shy deer, you're off in the distance — why don't you come near? I put out a salt lick — I know you like it.
You seem okay, but this lick sometimes is a wicked trick.

Sadly this is true and I understand why you're shy and scared. We will talk tomorrow — as time will tell me what.

---

Hey shy deer, you're closer but still in the distance — why don't you come near?

I came nearer as you left corn and I am eating despite my fear. I am hungry — please don't come closer.

I understand. Sometimes we are shy as we don't understand our neighbors. Sometimes we have to make up for the bad things others do. It is acceptable to be scared, be shy, or act grumpy and even snippy. Sir Chewy doesn't like to be touched in certain places and I respect that.

Yes — he has said as much during our discussions and that the area is safe.

I am sure it helps others when a person we trust lets us know they are okay. And that doesn't mean trust is readily given. We must give them time. We must show we are worthy. And they come closer one day, one inch, one moment at a time.

I might not ever come fully all the way.

I'll meet you nearer another time and day. And even if we must stay feet away to be friends for life — that is okay.
